FAQ
Q: What does phone unlocking mean?
A: When you purchase a phone from your network provider and sign a contract term with them, they lock your phone so that you can only use it with them. By removing the service provider lock, you make the phone available to use with other networks providers.
Q: Why do the network providers lock their phones anyway?
A: For two reasons. One, they don't want you to take that cheap phone you just received from them and use it with another network provider. Two, they want you to travel with the phone and use the exorbitant long distant & roaming fees that they make off you.
Q: How do I know if my phone is locked?
A: The easiest way is to try and put a SIM card from a different service provider in your phone to see if it will accept it. If you get a message saying wrong card, enter subsidy code or SIM disabled then likely it's locked. For CDMA phones it's a little more difficult to tell.
